Alex Teran

Alex is co-founder and Chief Battery Engineer at Blue Current. Blue Current is working on a lithium ion battery with a solid non-flammable electrolyte. As lithium ion batteries are increasingly finding there way into electrified transportation, the need for a non-flammable option to current lithium ion battery technology is quickly becoming essential. Alex first met his co-founder Professor Nitash Balsara when Alex was one of Dr. Balsara's graduate students at University of California's Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. Professor Balsara had already sold a next generation lithium ion battery startup, but he was so impressed and inspired by Alex's dedication and enthusiasm he decided to jump back into the battery startup world. While Alex is heartened by how quickly clean energy is being adopted, he says "we can't rest on our laurels ... You can't convince people to stop using oil, gas and coal to save the environment. It needs to be based on an economic incentive, and therefore you need to make the technology good enough to bring those costs down so that [clean energy is] the only option". The work that he is doing at Blue Current is one crucial piece of the research and development effort striving towards that goal.
