Cadir Lee
Cadir is President and Chief Technology Officer of OhmConnect, a San Francisco, California based startup that pays consumers to save electricity during periods of peak usage. When electricity usage peaks, low efficiency, dirty power plants called peaker plants are fired up. OhmConnect notifies its users of an upcoming period of peak usage. The users voluntarily dial back their own usage and in return receive incentives in the form of cash and prizes. The coordinated effort of the OhmConnect customers allows the utility to keep the peaker plant powered down. OhmConnect acts as a virtual power plant.
Cadir says, "Just being smarter about how we use energy in homes is really dramatic. Its really whats standing between us and a 100% renewable future ... And we feel like we are a huge enabler for that. And that is exciting.". Cadir has a had very successful career prior to OhmConnect working at a series of startups including Zynga. But Cadir felt joining OhmConnect was his calling, "I really wanted to do something that I felt was meaningful. I think the problem of our generation is really climate change. Its the one that people are going to look back on and say did they screw it up or did they do a good job. And I feel like smartest people with the best background have to be jumping into this field and I feel like that was a calling to me".
